Consider Christ

Learn much of the Lord Jesus. For every look at yourself, take ten looks at Christ. he is altogether lovely. Such infinite majesty, and yet such meekness and grace, and all for sinners, even the chief. Live much in the smiles of God. Bask in His beams. Feel His all-seeing eye settled on you in love, and repose in His almighty arms….Let your soul be filled with a heart-ravishing sense of the sweetness and excellency of Christ and all that is in Him.

–Robert M’Cheyne as cited in Rejoicing in Christ, Michael Reeves, p.11

I’ve just started reading the book, Rejoicing in Christ by Michael Reeves.. In fact this quote is taken from its introduction. I read and re-read these words longing to live in the reality of them–to bask in God’s favor because of my standing in Christ, to learn to live in the confidence of all Jesus is for all that I am not…I need this. Most of all I need the reminder to fix my eyes on Jesus’ perfections rather than my shortfall. He is enough.

Keep your attention on Jesus Christ as risen from the dead and descended from David. (II Tim.2:8)
